The Deschutes County Search and Rescue Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit that is affiliated with but independent of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, and was established solely for the purpose of raising funds to support search and rescue needs above that which can be funded by the Sheriff’s Office budget. While the Sheriff Office’s budget supports basic operational needs it does not provide all funding required for the upgrade or replacement of certain equipment or the funding for all desired training. Advanced training for various teams often requires the SAR volunteer to pay for their own tuition and travel.
The Deschutes County Search and Rescue Foundation helps offset costs to the County in supporting the SAR team. The Foundation is a separate fundraising arm of the Deschutes County Search and Rescue organization with oversight by the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office. The Foundation also provides public outreach to educate the public on the activities of the SAR Team and to provide outdoor safety education, survival, map and compass, and other wilderness skills training. The Foundation can be contacted at www.deschutessearchandrescue.org for speaker and training requests.
